DARBY WRESTLING NEWS
DISTRICT AND STATE TOURNAMENT AT DARBY COMPLETE
Hilliard Darby played host to all of DI Central District wrestling teams for the yearly District Tournament, as well as all of DI teams with State Qualifiers for the OHSAA DI State Tournament. Due to Covid restrictions, spectators were allotted limited tickets, allowing for Darby to reconstruct their gym in a manner that best suits the tournaments.
A huge thank you goes to all of the workers, student workers, volunteers, and Darby Administrators that allowed these events to run smoothly and cleanly. Also special thanks to multiple vendors who lit up the gymnasium for the State Finals.
DARBY TO HOST CENTRAL DISTRICT TOURNAMENT AND DI STATE TOURNAMENT
As usual, Hilliard Darby will host the Central District Wrestling Tournament. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tournament will look much different than typical years. First, instead of a Friday / Saturday tournament, the tournament will run on Saturday and Sunday; this change is limit any Darby student / staff exposure to people traveling to Darby from outside of the District. Also, the tournament will run within 4 separate sessions. The first and 3rd session will feature light weight classes (106-145), while session 2 and 4 will feature the upper weight classes (152-285). As always, we look forward to hosting a fan-friendly and wrestler-friendly event.
Darby will also host the OHSAA Division I State Tournament. This new challenge is also due to the Covid-19 restrictions. Each wrestler will only be allowed 2 tickets per athlete per within the session that they are competing, for a maximum of 224 spectators per session (which is the same as Districts). The only difference in the format between District and State is that State will include a 5th session that features the 28 wrestlers that will compete for a State Championship in the State Finals. State Finalists will be awarded 8 tickets for family and supporters to attend.
